Emma Aldridge, of 1 Codicote Road, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, was admitted on May 6 1885, aged 8 and a half, and was treated by our surgeon Edmund Owen for Necrosis of the upper end of the Tibia.
Treatment involved "Amputation of the middle third of thigh", and a note is appended that "In November a conical piece of bone separated fr(om) end of stump, after which stump healed up"

Charles Dobbs complained that Emma was annoying him by calling his name all the time. From that point, Emma determined to call young Charles, Cyril. That was was fine by Cyril
